Bihar Election 2025: Marjadi Villagers Boycott Over Missing Bridge
This is the heartbreaking reality of Marjadi village in West Champaran, Bihar a place that perfectly captures the gap between promises and progress. Despite having a river flowing right through it, Marjadi has no bridge, leaving thousands of people cut off from the rest of the world during the monsoon. The village has a school that goes only up to class five, no hospital, and almost no road connectivity.
Every rainy season, Marjadi becomes an island. Children risk their lives crossing the river just to attend school—some have even drowned in the attempt. Pregnant women are forced to give birth at home because ambulances can’t reach the village. People die from snake bites and medical emergencies, simply because there’s no bridge to cross the river in time.
For the past five consecutive terms, the same MLA has promised to build a bridge, but the promise has remained on paper. Fed up with decades of neglect, the villagers have taken a stand: “No Bridge, No Vote.” In 2015, they boycotted the election, and now in Bihar Election 2025, around 2,500 villagers have decided to repeat their protest.
