Mithila Painting Empowering Women in Bihar | Cultural Ground Report
In this inspiring episode of Witty Chokha’s Election Journey, anchor Rohit Jha travels to Mithila land of culture, devotion, and the world-famous Mithila Painting. This art form dates back to the time of King Janak and the marriage of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, and today it has become Bihar’s cultural identity across the world.
Through this ground report, we meet Preeti Thakur, founder of Mithila Kriti Hub, who began in 2016 with just one artist. Today, her team creates hand-painted sarees, dupattas, coconut art, Chhath Puja items, wedding designs, and festival crafts preserving tradition while empowering women.
Preeti shares how Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore Mithila masks and received a Mithila dupatta made by her team, bringing international recognition to this art. Alongside her, artist Sakshi Thakur explains how Mithila art is now a source of employment and empowerment for hundreds of women in Bihar.
